Missionary Journey

I was called to go and travel the world in Sept 2012. The first target was a city in Peru, starting with a “Ch” on September 15, 2012.

Over two years I prepared to leave, by selling everything I had, quitting my job, had a car accident and recovered and left.

I landed in Lima, Peru after a long journey and went to Chimbote on September 15.

My first days of travel were recovering from my long flight. My back was sore from the car accident and I needed to rest.

On the first night I arrived, there was a group of people gathered on the small deck. There was the usual hostel activity, smoking cigarettes, drinking and smoking weed.

I had the choice to either go to bed or to go hang out. There was a German couple I talked to about their trip. The guy said he could not understand the church who have money and there are homeless people sleeping on their steps.

He said he and his girlfriend had taken everything they had, including their clothes, except for what they were wearing, their backpacks and toiletries and given it away. They said, we can buy more if we want when we get back home tomorrow.

I was able to apologize for the church not following what God has called us to do. The man and the rest of the people on the deck listened as I explained God’s salvation plan and his instructions for loving God and others.

I didn’t have to try to evangelize, I was able to listen and follow the Holy Spirit.

*I have been there on travel before.

I’m learning to be humble and glorify God in all. I want to do his will, his way, his timing. Over the years, my own weakness, selfishness and pride have hurt people, my family and me. I know that God is faithful to bring me along because He can envision how I will reflect him and who I will be at the end. I am thankful He has not given up on me.
